5 Ways to make your Birthday Session Unique

"YOU" with a birthday shoot. Don't do the same old run-of-mill shoot with a birthday cake and balloons. Try a birthday shoot that will capture your style and personality. It is never to early to start planning for your birthday celebration. Plan for something that will make your birthday shoot stand out from the others and make you feel special at the same time. Instead of the park, why not the zoo. Instead of a studio why not a trolley car. The city lights at night or the city skyscrapers during the day will make a perfect background. The choices are endless. I recommend that you plan for an entire day of fun and relaxation. Start with a visit to the spa for a facial and a full body massage. Don't forget to treat your hand and feet with a manicure and pedicure. I would always recommend a professional makeup artist for your shoot. Even if you don’t normally wear makeup, the right artist will give you the natural look you want or give you that smokey eye you have been dying to try. Next, you want the right outfit. You want something with a pop of color, something that matches your style, but you also want something that will fit with the location. This birthday shoot had everything, fun, fashion, history, and scenery. Nikki decided for her 32nd birthday she wanted a new style with a new cut and a new color. And yes 32 does look good on her. Nikki's confidence combine with her new style came across beautifully in her photos. Nikki and I along with fellow female photographer, Felicia Epps-Kelsey went to Petersburg Virginia Old Town Historical District for Nikki’s birthday shoot. Petersburg was an amazing setting for a different twist to a birthday shoot. Petersburg is one of the oldest cities in Virginia. Along with the historical value of Petersburg we were able to use some Petersburg's beautiful scenery. We use historical sites in Petersburg like the South Side Railroad Station built in 1854 that at one time had a line from Petersburg to Lynchburg. We used the Peter Jones Trading Station which is the oldest building in the city. Built between 1650 and 1750, the trading station has been used from trading with Indians in the 1670s to serving as a prison and hospital during the civil war. For a totally different style, we were about to find hidden in all of the historical buildings some beautiful scenery to highlight Nikki's nature look. Nikki had a fresh new natural new hair cut and she decided to dish the high heels and go barefoot. She wore a long flowery gown and everything from head to toe came together perfectly.

The most important thing to remember is you want to have fun and have photos that will bring you joy when you pull them out years from now. When you look at your birthday photos in 30 years, they should put a smile on your face and make you want to do it all over again. All you need is the right concept to fit your personality and the right photographer to have an unique birthday photoshoot.
